A suburban man was arrested Sunday afternoon for punching a man in the face so hard it broke his jaw , prosecutors said.

Patrick Harrison, 21, of Niles, Ill., turned himself in to Area North police a week after he allegedly assaulted a man outside of Emerald Isle, an Edison Park bar that both men patronized.

Prosecutors said Harrison and the man did not know each other or interact in the bar, but Harrison followed the man outside after he left. Less than a block away from the bar, Harrison struck the man in the face with a closed fist, causing his jaw to break in multiple places, prosecutors said, later requiring the man's jaw to be wired shut.

Harrison told police he had hit the man when he brought himself to the police station around 2 p.m. Sunday, according to the police report.

Harrison appeared at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Monday afternoon and was released on a $10,000 I-bond.
