The alert said on several occasions between June 24 and July 19, retail store employees in the 1st District, which includes the Loop, were confronted by groups of teenage women, who used force or threatened to use force to steal goods from the stores.

One incident took place in the 0-100 Block of North Wabash Avenue on June 24 just after 4 p.m.; Another took place in the 0-100 Block of East Madison Street on July 16 at 11:30 a.m.; A third took place at the 100 block of South State Street on July 19, at about 12:20 p.m., the report said.

Police officials said victims of these offenses should remain calm, remember any physical characteristics about their assailants, request the contact information of any witnesses, and call 911 while on the scene.

Officials did not say which stores were targeted. The area includes a Macy's department store, Lane Bryant, American Apparel, and Office Depot.
