Woodlawn burglary tied to lovers' spat

July 18, 2013|By Rachel Cromidas, @rachelcromidas | RedEye

A lovers' spat turned into residential burglary in Woodlawn on Wednesday afternoon, county prosecutors said, when a vengeful woman allegedly stole her boyfriend's XBOX and TV.

Raven Lee, 19, and Joyce Byars, 17, both of the 4300 block of South Aberdeen in New City, were arrested Wednesday and charged as adults with attempted residential burglary after a man told police officers he saw them removing electronics from his home and carrying them to a car. Among the items: an XBOX 360 and a 25-inch and 55-inch TV, according to court records.

County prosecutors said one of the women got into an argument with the victim, a Woodlawn man, and threatened to "come back and take all of his stuff."

Both Lee and Byars appeared at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse on Thursday afternoon and were held on $10,000 bond.
