Pro softball championship series returns to Chicago

The nation’s best professional softball teams are coming to Chicago this summer.

The 2013 National Pro Fastpich Championship series will be held Aug. 22-24 at the Chicago Bandits' home stadium, The Ballpark at Rosemont.

The NPF Championship Series is the league's hallmark event. It will feature the Chicago Bandits, USSSA Pride, NY/NJ Comets and the Akron Racers. Numerous Olympic medalists compete on each team.

A minimum of four games and a maximum of five games will be played during the series. ESPN2 will carry a live broadcast of Saturday’s first game at 4 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased by phone at 615-232-2900 or online at profastpitch.com. Tickets can also be purchased on game days at the stadium box office. Individual game ticket prices range from $7 to $20. All-session passes are $23 to $47. Children younger than 3 are admitted free.  

“The Village of Rosemont is honored to host this showcase of world-class women’s athletics in our stadium for the second year in a row,” Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens said in a press release. “Women’s fastpitch softball is becoming increasingly popular and has gained a great deal of support from the community within the past few years. The NPF Championship Series will not only build on this foundation but give fans from around the country and of all ages the opportunity to enjoy this great sport as well.”

Thursday, August 22
Game 1: 7 p.m. (#4 vs. #3)

Friday, August 23
Game 2: 5:30 p.m. (Game 1 winner vs. #2)
Game 3: 8:30 p.m. (Game 2 winner vs. #1)

Saturday, August 24
Game 4: 4 p.m. (Game 2 winner vs. #1)
Game 5: 7 p.m. (Game 2 winner vs. #1)
