The four young women were on their way to get ice cream in Bucktown Monday night, state prosecutors said, when a man approached them with a knife in his hand.

The teenagers, all from Berwyn, screamed and fled, but witnesses helped police catch the alleged offender shortly after at a McDonalds across the street, according to the police report.

Steve Jones, 49, was arrested at 9:25 p.m. near "Margies Candies" at 1960 N. Western Ave, and charged with four counts of attempted robbery.

According to court records, at least two witnesses said the man "aggresively demanded" that the group "give me your shit," while carrying a pocket knife.  But when they saw Jones, the young women screamed and ran in different directions.

Jones, of the 4800 block of West Wabansia Avenue, appeared at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Wednesday afternoon and was held on $200,000 bond.
