The law has finally caught up with a serial K-Mart thief, state prosecutors said.

A West Town man was arrested Wednesday at noon after a store security guard caught him stealing from a display at the 1360 North Ashland storefront, prosecutors said. The man sprinted through the store parking lot to escape, but he was caught, according to the police report.

Miguel Ramos, 45, was charged with five counts of theft after store managers reviewed security footage and recognized him as a repeat thief throughout the month of June.

Police officials said Ramos admitted to stealing three shirts from the store, which retail at two for $5, and several other offenses. Ramos also allegedly pointed to the camo-patterened shorts he was wearing and told them that those too were stolen from K-Mart, on a different date.

Ramos appeared at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Thursday afternoon and was held on $50,000 bond.
