For the second consecutive year, WTTW’s “Check, Please!” is partnering with the Taste of Chicago to promote participation in “Pop-Up” eateries, restaurants that literally pop up for a day or two.
The Pop-up eatery feature was introduced to the Taste last year, when 15 restaurants participated as one-day, mobile vendors.
With the help of "Check, Please!" this year's July 10-14 Taste will add 12 more Pop-Up restaurants with some remaining on site for two days. The Pop-Up section will be on the east side of Columbus Drive, just south of Jackson Boulevard.
New restaurants participating in the Pop-Ups program include Hearty Restaurant, Punky’s Pizza & Pasta, Pecking Order, Taco Joint Urban Taqueria & Cantina, Terzo Piano and Kilwin’s Chocolates.
Many new menu items will be available, too, including a cilantro garlic pulled pork sandwich from Hearty Restaurant, panades from Garifuna Flava, elotes from Taco Joint, mini-lamb burgers from Terzo Piano and a garlic fried rice chicken bowl from Pecking Order.
“WTTW and our most popular local series ‘Check, Please!’ are delighted to have a presence at Taste of Chicago again this year,” said VJ McAleer, WTTW’s senior vice president of production, in a press release. “We have always sought to engage Chicagoans in the wide variety of dining experiences the city has to offer. Our program’s partnership with this event takes that process one step further, bringing exposure to even more restaurants while giving diners the tactile experience of actually sampling the cuisine.”
Pop-Ups accept the same food tickets as five-day restaurants. Tickets may be purchased at Dominick’s locations for $7 beginning June 29. Remaining ticket strips will be sold on site at six ticket booths for $8.
