EAT

Seasonal Opening

Homestead 1924 W. Chicago Ave. 773-645-4949

Enter through Roots Handmade Pizza and head upstairs to the rooftop restaurant where the on-site organic garden becomes part of your dinner in such dishes as an English pea and artichoke small plate ($9) and whole fried trout with charred leek panzanella, fennel, orange, house-cured olives and fiddlehead ferns ($20). 5-11 p.m.

Bourbon, Burger & Beer Night

Publican Quality Meats 825 W. Fulton Market 312-445-8977

Tavernita chef-partner Ryan Poli brings his double-patty South Side Big Baby Burger ($11) for one night to duke it out on the menu with the Publican's PQM Burger ($10). Pair them with Eagle Rare barrel bourbon ($8 per pour or $10 for a Whiskey Smash cocktail), hand-selected by Publican spirits director—and chef Poli's brother—Matt Poli. 6-9 p.m.

DRINK

West Town Pup Crawl

Mahoney's Pub & Grille 551 N. Ogden Ave. 312-733-2121

Bring your pooch to the patio for half-price appetizers, $14 Batch 19 draft beer growlers and $16 sangria and margarita pitchers; partial proceeds benefit canine charities. Then head to The Matchbox (770 N. Milwaukee Ave.), J. Patrick's (1367 W. Erie St.) and The Aberdeen Tap (440 N. Aberdeen St.) for more patio pup socializing. 6-8 p.m. No cover.

DO

Two Cookie Minimum: Cookies and Cake, Too!

Hungry Brain 2319 W. Belmont Ave. 773-709-1401

Six local comics artists take the stage for performance-style readings from their creations—with accompanying projected artwork—at this fundraiser for the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (CAKE), which includes hosted cookies and—you guessed it—cake. 9 p.m. $5 suggested donation.

(Free!) "Muddy Waters & The Rolling Stones—Live at the Checkerboard Lounge, 1981"

Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park 201 E. Randolph St. 312-742-1168

See a screening of the concert film shot at the former Buddy Guy-owned Bronzeville club in which the Stones stop by hoping for a chance to play with the legendary Chicago blues man and end up onstage. 6:30 p.m.
