The city will upgrade sidewalks in Little Village to make them accessible…
The Chicago Department of Transportation next month will begin fixing sidewalks on 31st Street to make them accessible for CTA bus riders with disabilities, a spokesman said Friday.
CDOT will upgrade sidewalks and install ramps on 31st Street from Kedzie to Kostner Avenues in the Little Village area, city spokesman Bill McCaffrey said. The CTA last year approved experimental bus service on 31st Street between Kedzie and Cicero Avenues.
The CTA board voted in April to continue the experiment, an extension of the No. 35-31st/35th Street route, through October.
Some residents complained to the CTA about the sidewalks.
"The sidewalks at many of these bus stop loocations are in poor conditions or in some cases, nonexistent," McCaffrey said. "This is an industrial area. There are railroad right-of-ways."
The project, which will be done this summer, is slated to cost $226,000, McCaffrey said. The funds will come from Ald. Ricardo Munoz's (22nd) money intended for ward projects.
