Police alert warns of burglaries at Near North Side businesses

May 17, 2013|By Rachel Cromidas, @rachelcromidas | RedEye

A series of burglaries has struck businesses just north of the Loop, according to a community alert Chicago police officials issued Friday.

The alert for District 18 said two offenders wearing hooded sweatshirts, baseball caps and gym shoes broke into the front or rear doors of several businesses in the area, sometimes using a blunt object to break glass. The break-ins took place between May 4 and May 14, in the early evening, late evening, and early morning.

Police officials said they recommend business owners lock their doors and windows, and activate their alarms and video surveillance systems to prevent burglaries and ease investigations.

Businesses in the tony blocks that were struck, such as the 400 block of North Wells Street and the 300 block of Hubbard Street, include Kinzie Chophouse, Coco Puzzo, and the steakhouse Gene & Georgetti.
