Man hits police car, gets DUI, cops say

An Indiana man was driving home April 14 from watching a Cubs game with friends when he hit a Chicago police car at 1354 N. Clark St., police said.

Daniel Magana, 35, had a blood-alcohol score of .193, well over the legal limit, state prosecutors said when he appeared at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse on Wednesday.

Two police officers were investigating a separate traffic violation on the Near North Side in the early morning when Magana, driving a green Honda Ridgeline, allegedly crashed into their car. One officer was badly injured, the report said, and so was a man in the squad car who police had been investigating.

Magana allegedly told officers he had drunk 14 12-ounce cups of beer througout the night.

Magana's attorney told the court that he had no prior DUI offenses.
