Playoff hockey is sooooo hot

April 30, 2013|RedEye

The Blackhawks have been hot all season. Heading into their playoff opener against Minnesota on Tuesday at the United Center, the Hawks used a 24-game points streak to start the season as a springboard to dominating the NHL in 2013.

Their attraction extends beyond their win total, too. Cosmopolitan unveiled its list of the hottest hockey players in the 2013 playoffs, and the man on top is familiar: Hawks winger Patrick Sharp. His teammates—and the rest of the NHL—can be jealous of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, too, as they're second and 12th on the mag's list, respectively.

So in honor of all things hot and Blackhawks, we rate the attractiveness of the key moments in Game 1. On a scale of 1 to 10, of course, with a nod to Patrick Sharp's jersey number.

FIRST PERIOD

15:11: Cal Clutterbuck scores on the Wild's first shot on goal. Their first. Shot. On. Goal. Hope you have a short memory, Corey Crawford.

Hotness scale: 0

13:42: Hawks defenseman Nick Leddy upends Minnesota's Torrey Mitchell with a bruising shoulder tackle. Who says the Hawks don't hit hard?

Hotness scale: 5

12:21: In what hopefully will not become a recurring theme, Crawford bails out his defense by stopping the Wild's Matt Cullen on a mini-breakaway while Minnesota is shorthanded.

Hotness scale: 6

:46.3: Crawford comes up with two HUGE stops on the Wild's Kyle Brodziak, who had been leading a two-on-one break. Reminder to the Hawks: Each period lasts 20 minutes.

Hotness scale: 9

Score: Wild 1, Blackhawks 0

SECOND PERIOD

19:50: The period is only 10 seconds old, and already Crawford has to make a save on a defensive breakdown. He could be a hero yet.

Hotness scale: 5

17:54: Patrick Kane would make one hell of a magician. He splits about 12 defenders with a pass that finds Hossa, who buries the power play goal.

Hotness scale: 10

Oduya to Handzus near goal

11:45: Brent Seabrook takes exception to Mitchell smacking his goaltender unnecessarily, and Seabs lets him know with a few shoves. Loyalty is sooooo hot.

Hotness scale: 7

3:32: Harding makes a spectacular save on Patrick Sharp. Hey, nobody does Sharpie like that!

Hotness scale: 5

3:02: Bryan Bickell erases Zenon Konopka with a powerful check. Very manly, Bicks. Very manly indeed.

Hotness scale: 8

Score: Blackhawks 1, Wild 1

THIRD PERIOD

18:29: Kane drives to the net after a great pass from Saad, only to be stoned by Harding. Scoring chances like that get the blood pumping though.

Hotness scale: 7

14:46: Crawford giving up rebounds with Wild players nearby? Not sexy. Crawford stopping them both and keeping the game tied? Very sexy.

Hotness scale: 5

10:05: The puck finds its way into the Wild net, but the referee rules that he blew the whistle before that happened. Way to be a buzzkill the buzz, Mr. Official.

Hotness scale: 2

2:23: Brandon Saad has a chance to score the game-winner … and gets stopped by Harding. So. Frustrating.

Hotness scale: 4

Score: Blackhawks 1, Wild 1

OVERTIME

3:25: BRYAN FRICKIN' BICKELL SCORES. Sleep well, Hawks fans … if you know what we mean.

Hotness scale: 10

Final score: Blackhawks 2, Wild 1
