Even for the Cubs, this has been a bizarre week. You can't help but think there's something else at work. You know what we mean.

No deal

The Cubs wanted to have a Wrigley Field renovation plan in place by Monday. Uh, yeah, that didn't happen. They're still talking things over with city officials and Wrigleyville rooftop owners. Blah, blah, blah.

We're all for sending a message to team management when things aren't working out, but not like this. Someone sent a goat's head addressed to Tom Ricketts. At least own up to it, whomever you are.

Injury to insult

Catcher/infielder Steve Clevenger had to be placed on the 60-day disabled list with a strained oblique. Which he injured while striking out. Clevenger said it "felt like a knife in my side." Bad news for him, but on the bright side, he probably won't miss much.

Muck wild

Edwin Jackson and Mike Bowden ought to be ashamed of themselves. They combined for a major league-record five wild pitches Sunday. In ONE INNING. Come on guys. Just … we give up.

Fujikawa shelved

Just when the Cubs thought they had the closer's role squared away for the time being, Kyuji Fujikawa goes down with a forearm strain injury. Then his replacement, Shawn Camp, gives up a two-out homer to blow a lead to the Giants on Sunday, and the Cubs lose in extra innings. We wish we were kidding.
