We still want you, LeBron

If you can't beat him, sign him.

That's what we're down to in Chicago. There is no way, healthy or not, Derrick Rose or not, that the Bulls can play with the Miami Heat. So, it gets real simple:

At the end of 2013-14, LeBron James can opt out of his deal with the Heat. That's when the Bulls come knocking with a) Healthy Derrick Rose b) Tons of cash and cap space c) Maybe another stud.

Who that other guy is, I don't know, but they'll have the room to add someone. Hey, I'm not the minutia guy; I'm the big picture dreamer.

Someone crunch the numbers and make it work. All I know is right now, we're not even close—and neither is the rest of the NBA. You can't outcoach talent at this level. Sad, isn't it?

What's not sad is how Phil Emery has quickly gotten the Bears quicker and younger at linebacker.

Brian Urlacher? Yes, I will miss him. In particular, the 2006 him. Hey, I hate it when it ends badly but Emery? Sorry, but I'll take the cold-hearted surgeon approach over the rah-rah emotional stuff any day. Now we draft whoever we want! Maybe even another linebacker! Maybe another tight end! Let's live a little!

Enough nonsense—30-degree temps and gloomy skies can mean only one thing. It's baseball season! I love the Sox except for … John Danks. I'm still wondering why we gave Mark Buehrle's money to him.

Note: I'm there opening day. I'll be at the Bacardi center at 6:30; I doubt I'll make it to the game.

To the North Side, yes, another year of rebuilding. If this we're an actual building, we'd still be working the foundation for the league's fourth most valuable franchise. Wow, imagine how valuable they would be if it wasn't: Rooftop owners 83 percent, Cubs 17 percent of rooftop revenues. How about we flip that?

Regardless, another year of pain but we see signs of improvement: Players doing the little things, smart drafting, player development, good coaching.

Enough to sit outside and freeze for?

No, of course not. Enjoy opening day.
