St. Patrick's Day falls on a Sunday this year, so most of the green-tinged festivities will have already happened by the time the actual day arrives. But any Chicagoan who isn't too hungover to solve a riddle on the holiday morning will have a chance to win a leprechaun's gold coin.
UltraPawn.com, an online pawn broker with offices in Chicago, will be giving away a Krugerrand worth $1,500 through a leprechaun named Marius O'Mustard (not his real name) on Sunday. At 9 a.m., the riddle will be posted on the website, and participants must solve the riddle and be the first to track down O'Mustard with the correct answer in order to win.
O'Mustard, an Avondale resident, has not seen the riddle yet and doesn't know what to expect.
"I think it will be really hard. It will probably have something to do with the city, probably its history," he said.
O'Mustard will be carrying around some other prizes and swag to give away along with the Krugerrand. He'll be moving to different locations in the city throughout the day to give the stuff away. Since he's carrying the treasure, he said a leprechaun "is never without his body guards" and will be traveling in style with a private car from place to place.
The site reached out to O'Mustard, an experienced leprechaun at 214* years old, for his expertise after CEO George Souri came up with the treasure hunt idea.
"I do alot of leprachaun work during this season--hanging out in bars, handing out swag, doing private parties," he said. "They found me out, and I'm excited to do it."
