Hop aboard a 1940s merchant vessel to sample chowders prepared by 14 chefs including Homaru Cantu of Moto and Ing restaurants, Giuseppe Tentori of GT Fish & Oyster and Ryan McCaskey of Acadia, who complete for judges' and audience votes at this annual seaside shindig that includes beer, wine and desserts and benefits the Sea Scouts youth sailing program. 6:30-9 p.m. $40-$50. The Moth Storyslam

Doors open at 5 p.m. for this popular contest where you can drop your name in a hat to be one of 10 storytellers selected to share your five-minute, no-notes tale on this month's theme of "comfort." WBEZ-FM 91.5 event producer Don Hall hosts the action and a panel of judges determines the winner. Don't want to arrive three hours early?
