In past summers, Soldier Field has hosted food events, concerts and of course, sporting events. This spring, it will welcome an estimated 10,000 beer lovers for the American Beer Classic.

The new festival, which would be one of the largest in the Midwest, will take place on May 11, a mere five days before the start of Chicago Craft Beer Week.

But the American Beer Classic won't solely have a local or craft focus, though organizers do plan to spotlight Midwest beers. While craft brewers such as Dogfish Head, Magic Hat and Pyramid will be attend, breweries of all sizes will be represented, meaning that divisions of some major macrobreweries also will pour at the festival.

That makes this festival different from smaller, local-focused fests -- as do the American Beer Classic's plentiful samples. While some other events mete out tickets for small pours, ticket prices for this festival include hundreds of beer samples for guests to choose from. Live music, concessions and beer-related vendors are also planned.

Organized by Red Frog Events, the American Beer Classic will take place over the course of four hours, beginning at noon on May 11. An evening session may be added if demand is strong enough.

Ticket prices begin at $40 for advanced registration and increase $10 each month to reach a final price of $70 for day-of admission. VIP tickets, which include the option to arrive an hour early to the festival, cost double. Tickets are on sale now at the event's website.
