Fans of HBO's fantasy epic "Game of Thrones" got a peek at Season 3 during Friday night's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" when super fan Kimmel showed the first trailer.
"Death is coming for everyone and everything," the Red Witch Melisandre says with chilling effect. "A darkness that will swallow the dawn."
Based on George R.R. Martin's book series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” "Games of Thrones" returns at 8 p.m. CT March 31 on HBO. The third season will cover roughly half of his third book, "A Storm of Swords."
Set to the Ms Mr's "Bones," the minute-long trailer offers several ominous quotes like the one above, and quick flashes of scenes that back up the idea of a season filled with bloody battles and even more treachery.
"I'm going to light the biggest fire the North has ever seen," declares Manc Rayder, leader of the Wildlings.
King Joffrey appears not to have lost any of his psychotic behavior. As he says, "Everyone is mine to torment," Cersei, Tywin and Tyrion all register concerned looks. See, even they think he's nuts.
As for the Starks, we get glimpses of Bran using a bow and arrow, and of his sisters Arya and Sansa. Robb Stark and Lady Catelyn view a burned out castle keep after a battle. Maybe it's Winterfell? They also oversee a funeral.
"Show them how it feels to lose what they love," Lady Stark says, presumably to Robb.
Daenerys Targaryen seems to have finally rallied her own army. We see her with soldiers and later standing in front of a huge flame. Maybe the fire was started by one of her three dragons that we see flying toward a ship. They've grown, and appear to be ready for battle.
Speaking of vengeance, the clip ends with Lord Varys voice saying, "The revenge you want will be yours in time." As he says it, we see several characters to whom he could be speaking.
The trailer presents many questions, like who is the guy tied up in a dungeon with a hood over his head? And is Jon Snow a captive of the Wildlings, or working with Mance Rayder?
What do you think of the trailer? Are you ready for 3/31/13?
