Hawks = Cure for Chicago winters

February 21, 2013|By Bag Boy | For RedEye

Friday night, we ride.

Into the record books. We don't talk much Blackhawks hockey. That's because I have a fear of abandonment issue. As in the Blackhawks abandoned me when I was a kid and I still don't trust them.

Friday's different, though. 13-0-3, and it's the Sharks at the UC. I'm a little worried about Marian Hossa and the goaltending seems average at times, but overall, I'm ready to go crazy.

How crazy? Here's an odd thing. When the Blackhawks are this good, the bizarre ticket prices don't look so bizarre.

100 Level. The PrivateBank tickets. $450. Yeah! I'm in!

I'm searching for things to worry about but it's been hard since Patrick Kane found adulthood. Or, it found him. Thanks, Ma.

I say they get the record Friday but am I the only one who realized the Anaheim Ducks are right behind them in points? Worth noting.

So happy the Blackhawks are this good—it makes the Chicago winter bearable. And silly headlines like this are tolerable: "Isiah says LeBron is a better athlete than MJ." Oh, Isiah, you're still that spoiled little jerk that Bulls fans can't stand. Who asked you? Also, isn't there another franchise out there for you to destroy?

I'll let it go. Real basketball returns, and Derrick Rose looks good in 5-on-5 drills. I'd like to offer more here but I'm waiting on comments from Adidas, lawyers, agents, PR people and hangers-on. Then I'll know something.

Here's what I do know: Cubs headlines this offseason have been all about presentation, not baseball. "Cubs renegotiating with WGN in 2014." "Cubs looking to alter seventh inning stretch conductors." "Cubs won't be adding more night games." "Cubs modernizing music at Wrigley."

Really? These are what I'm forced to live on? How about "Cubs revamp entire scouting department" or "Cubs parting ways with lazy players" or "Cubs changing entire 100 year old culture of losing"?

You know, something that matters.

Something that matters as much as the NFL Draft. I hear grumblings the Bears will be looking at Manti Te'o.

Yeah, I don't think so, and it's not because of the incident. It's because he's probably not that good.
