New Nike fitness center offers free classes and more

January 30, 2013|By Zara Husaini @zarhus

Nike Training Club may have had a soft opening for its Lincoln Park location on Monday, but trust us – there’s nothing ‘soft’ about this fitness destination.

NTC is a retail space that offers free (yes, free!) classes geared towards women . But unlike local fitness clubs like Flirty Girl Fitness, you won’t find traditionally feminine workouts here. The classes are geared towards female athletes, and they aren’t easy.

According to media rep Cindy Hamilton, the main class offered will be the “Nike Training Club” class, an intense full-body workout. Anyone who is familiar with Nike’s free workout app of the same name will recognize the setup of the class. It’ll be a 45-minute drill-style workout that gets its participants lean, strong and toned at the same time.

The new location will offer other classes as well. Stop by for barre-style workouts, pilates and yoga. Despite the intensity of the classes, all are welcome – even men. “It’s absolutely open to everyone,” Hamilton said. The instructors will welcome feedback from anyone enrolled in the classes, and workouts can certainly be adjusted for participants of different fitness levels.

In addition to the classes, NTC will also sell Nike gear. The usual offerings will be available (much like what you would find at any other Nike store) but according to Hamilton, plans for items exclusive to this location are underway. They hope to include collaborations with local artists as well.

“We’ll be more focused on the female athlete, so it’ll be unique,” Hamilton said.

The Nike Training Club had its soft opening Monday and will have a grand opening February 14. Head to 833 w Armitage for free classes and tons of workout gear. Check out @NTCLincolnPark to RSVP for classes.
