7 Chicago rappers have chance at XXL Freshman list

Every year, the hip-hop magazine XXL releases a list of its top 10 "Freshman," which are artists that the mag considers on the rise, underrated, deserving of more attention, etc.

The list carries more weight and causes more controversy than in probably should, but it is credited with putting many artists on the map or helping them take another step toward fame. Sometimes they can be a little late to the party on rappers, but they've given helpful bumps to artists like Big Sean, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar and Danny Brown, among others.

This year, fans can vote the final spot on the list while the magazine will choose the other nine, and Chicago has seven rappers on the ballot vying for that last spot. Here's the list:

  • Chance the Rapper
  • Chief Keef
  • King L
  • Lil Durk
  • Lil Reese
  • Rockie Fresh
  • Spenzo
You can vote at or by hashtagging the rappers' names and #xxlfreshman10spot on Twitter.
