It's friggin' cold out there. Especially for cyclists.

The good news: They can warm up this Friday at Daley Plaza with some free Caribou coffee, hot chocolate or tea and grab a slice of Eli's cheesecake on Winter Bike to Work Day.

The annual event, organized by the Active Transportation Alliance, takes place from 6:30 a.m.-9 a.m. at Washington and Dearborn streets, right by the Dearborn Street two-way protected bike lane.

Cyclists who attend the event will get free fleece balaclavas courtesy of The Chainlink and Bike Winter. The event commemorates the coldest day in city history, Jan. 20, 1985, when the official temperature at O'Hare was 27 degrees below zero, according to organizers.

Friday also marks the opening of online registration for MB Financial Bank Bike the Drive on May 26. Bike riders can save $8 if they register by Feb. 1.
