Second City makes donation to Planned Parenthood

The Second City semi-inadvertently raised more than $30,000 since its current mainstage show, The Second City 100th Revue: "Who Do We Think We Are?" debuted. They plan to donate the funds to planned parenthood.

Cast member Katie Rich explains the situation on the group's website: "We had to come in with political-themed pitches towards the end of our writing process and everyone in this cast is such a good improviser, so we had the idea for an improv scene where the audience 'lobbied' for the suggestion with money. It was in response to how horrible the Super-PAC situation is getting.

We were shocked with how willing and excited the audiences were to give money, especially once they were invested! Then, the question became, well, what do we do with all the money?"

She said the answer was to donate it to Planned Parenthood, as the war on women was a topic they had been trying to tackle in sketch form, but hadn't been coming off quite right. The troupe hosted Planned Parenthood staff and volunteers Thursday for a show during which they announced the donation.
