Maxim visits Chicago to find city's 'knockouts'

As the general manager of newly opened River North hot spot The Grid, Manny Navar knows a knockout when he sees one.

"I kind of lean towards brunets and blonds, in good shape, definitely care about themselves," the 32-year-old Roscoe Village resident said. "We always get a good-looking crowd. River North is flooded with hot women all the time."

But it's nothing quite like the crowd that's expected to descend on his establishment Wednesday night.

Maxim will be holding a casting call at 7 p.m. at The Grid in hopes of finding a few gorgeous Windy City women age 21 and up for the mag's new Neighborhood Knockouts feature.

"There is an opportunity to get in front of a Maxim rep and get their picture taken," said Jenna Fowler, an event marketing coordinator. "It doesn't happen all the time."

Fowler said the event, which is free to attend and participate in, is a good way for aspiring models to get their careers off the ground.

"(If selected) they will have opportunities to do various things for Maxim magazine," she said. "We just want the best selection of Chicago women to come and show Maxim what Chicago looks like."

What Chicago looks like is ideally a heaping helping of girl next door with a dash of lady of the night thrown in for good measure.

"The girls need to wear a two-piece outfit, either pants and a shirt or shirt and a skirt," Fowler said. "(Talent scouts) want to see their shape obviously. You want to show off your figure. They love that girl next door, that sexy, neighborhood sweetheart. Everybody knows one. Hopefully she will be there."

"I think there's a way to look attractive and not come off so trashy," Navar added. "You can still wear that tight dress, it's just the way you put yourself together and the way you present yourself."

Around 300 people are expected for the event, which will feature signature cocktails from sponsors Russian Standard vodka and Peroni beer and a lot of ridiculously good-looking people in attendance.

"I'd love to have half those be girls," Fowler said. "150 hot chicks with 150 hot men, sounds good to me."

It sounds good to Navar too.

"That's a lot of hot women in the same room at the same time," he said.
