There's virtually no middle ground when it comes to Notre Dame; most fans adore the Irish or despise them. If you're on the fence, here are some arguments that might sway you. But that's up to you.
Love the Irish …
>> Notre Dame players Gus Dorais and Knute Rockne invented the forward pass. And they perfected it while lifeguarding, no less.
>> Is there any backdrop as unique as the "Touchdown Jesus" mural? (FYI, technically it's called "Word of Life.")
>> They've racked up 11 national titles and seven Heisman Trophy winners.
Love them not …
>> Because of the school's cushy NBC contract, it refuses to join a conference for football. It also means the Irish avoid playing in a conference title game.
>> They run negative campaigns. Case in point, the "Catholics vs. Convicts" T-shirts made in reference to Miami players in 1988.
>> Former Irish coach Lou Holtz is annoying. Even if Notre Dame is playing a squad of NFL Pro Bowlers, the ESPN "analyst" picks the Irish.
