Happy new year, loyal readers! Winter's a bit challenging for us dogs. Your fur dries out in a heartbeat, and you start to wish they made indoor restrooms for canines. It's even rougher when the Bears collapse and fail to make the NFL playoffs. I'm not about to leave you hanging, though. Grab your hot chocolate and have a seat next to the fire, because here are my picks for the wild card round, complete with my paws ratings.

CINCINNATI AT HOUSTON

3:30 p.m. Saturday, NBC

As much as I can't stand cats, I really want to pick the Bengals because of their bruising defense. I can't overlook all of Houston's offensive firepower, however. I just hope the Texans don't take a nap like they did in their last two games of the regular season.

Prediction: Houston 20, Cincinnati 16

Paws rating: 2 out of 4

MINNESOTA AT GREEN BAY

7 p.m. Saturday, NBC

Also known as "the game no Bears fan will watch because it makes them want to wretch." One team has the running game Matt Forte was supposed to provide, while the other has a wicked passing game despite its quarterback's shortcomings. Yes, that's a joke about Aaron Rodgers' height. He's awesome, though.

Prediction: Green Bay 38, Minnesota 28

Paws rating: 3 out of 4

INDIANAPOLIS AT BALTIMORE

Noon Sunday, CBS

NOW we get an upset, courtesy of the amazing Andrew Luck. Personally, I would love to see him match up with Peyton Manning and Denver this postseason, but that's getting ahead of myself. (Or is it?) Look for another shootout, with the underdog Colts winning this one.

Prediction: Indianapolis 33, Baltimore 31

Paws rating: 4 out of 4

SEATTLE AT WASHINGTON

3:3 p.m. Sunday, Fox

The way both starting quarterbacks in this game run reminds me of a young Whizzer, sprinting through parks as a pup and scaring every squirrel in sight. Ah, good times. As well as Russell Wilson and Robert Griffin III have played, though Seattle's (PED-aided?) defense will be the difference in the fourth quarter.

Prediction: Seattle 24, Washington 21

Paws rating: 3 out of 4
