WWE World Champion CM Punk with his championship trophy on the CTA Blue Line… (Phil Velasquez/Chicago…)
If we've learned anything about those of you who voted for RedEye sports Stud and Dud of the year, it's that you love monstrous dudes slamming into each other. Uhhh, let us explain. By that we mean you're big fans of pro wrestling and hate the fact that hockey's elite players are on the shelf right now.
After two weeks of voting on RedEye Sports' Facebook page, CM Punk took home the Stud of the Year title for the second straight year. The Chicago native successfully defended the WWE Championship in April by defeating Chris Jericho. As usual, Punk's also occupied the spotlight outside the ring, serving as grand marshal in Chicago's Thanksgiving parade last month. The bad news is he underwent knee surgery recently, and it's uncertain as to when the self-proclaimed "Best in the World" will return to action.
The news is much, much worse in the NHL, which captured Dud of the Year honors in a landslide. The season was slated to begin in October, and all games have been canceled through Jan. 14. What's worse is that just when it looks like the players and owners are on the verge of figuring it out, talks fall apart again. Arrrrgh!
OK, before we lose it completely, here are the results of our polls.
STUD OF THE YEAR
CM Punk: 61 percent
Brandon Marshall: 30 percent
Matt Grevers: 3 percent
Alex Rios: 3 percent
Joakim Noah: 3 percent
DUD OF THE YEAR

The Cubs: 26 percent
The Bears offense (except for Brandon Marshall): 15 percent
Carlos Boozer: 4 percent
Philip Humber: 4 percent
