Parking meter pay boxes in River North in 2010. Rates are scheduled to increase… (Brian Cassella/Chicago…)
Drivers will have to dig a little deeper in their pockets for extra quarters next week if they plan on parking at a meter.
On Jan. 1, the rates of the parking meters go up.
In the Loop if drivers can find a spot, it'll cost $6.50 for an hour, up from $5.75.
It'll cost $4 an hour--a 50 cent increase--in neighborhoods including Old Town, South Loop, River North and the Gold Coast and others bordered by Roosevelt Road to the south, the lake to the east, North Avenue to the north and Halsted Street to the west.
Elsewhere, it'll cost $2 an hour, which is a quarter more in the new year.
