Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch has been a touchdown machine… (Dave Reginek/Getty Images )
It's natural that RedEye would ask me to handle its bowl preview. I'm an expert on bowls, after all. Not only do I eat from one (almost) exclusively, I also drink from the tall one made of porcelain when my owners aren't looking. Judge all you want, but it gets hot under all this fur.
Where was I? Oh yeah, bowl predictions. Here are the seven games that caught my eye.
Dec. 15: Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Toledo vs. Utah State
Watch because: Mmm, potatoes. This game is the perfect appetizer to the rest of the bowl season (see what I did there?). Hope you like defense, too, because you'll get a big helping of it from Utah State.
Prediction: Utah State, 17-14
Jan. 1: Orange Bowl
Northern Illinois vs. Florida State
Watch because: My pro-dog tendencies aside, I've got two words for Huskies haters: Jordan Lynch. If the NIU quarterback gets any help at all, the Seminoles are in big trouble.
Prediction: Northern Illinois, 33-31
Jan. 1: Gator Bowl
Northwestern vs. Mississippi State
Watch because: In each of their three losses, the Wildcats led late in the game, which means they know how to keep things exciting. Might not be a good thing in the end, however.
Prediction: Mississippi State, 34-27
Jan. 3: Fiesta Bowl
Oregon vs. Kansas State
Watch because: This game will feel like you're watching on fast-forward. Two explosive top-10 teams chasing each other all over the yard, er, field. Football heaven!
Prediction: Oregon, 48-41
Jan. 4: Cotton Bowl
Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma
Watch because: Johnny Manziel, aka "Johnny Football," and Texas A&M are the only ones who beat Alabama this season. That will be almost as fun to watch as this showdown.
Prediction: Texas A&M, 31-28
Jan. 1: Capital One Bowl
Nebraska vs. Georgia
Watch because: You'll never see angrier players. Nebraska got pummeled in the Big Ten championship game, and Georgia barely missed out on a chance to play for the national title.
Prediction: Georgia, 24-21
Jan. 7: BCS National Championship
Notre Dame vs. Alabama
Watch because: Uh, if you need me to give you a reason to tune in, you're in worse shape than I am after Thanksgiving dinner. And if you're a Notre Dame fan, you might feel sick after this one.
Prediction: Alabama, 34-18
