In an attempt to seduce movie-goers into paying that extra IMAX money, Paramount Pictures will release an extended nine-minute preview of the new "Star Trek Into Darkness" movie in about 500 IMAX theaters around the country.
The J.J. Abrams-directed sequel will be released in May 2013, but some viewers will get an extended look at some of the IMAX footage beginning Dec. 13. Other franchises, such as Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy and "Tron" in 2010, have used this IMAX-only trailer format before.
