Is 'great' next stop for Bears?

November 08, 2012|By Bag Boy | For RedEye

We'll have to wait for great.

It was just a fantastic preseason for the Bears, filled with plenty of defensive highlights and big-time TD passes, but let's start the season Sunday night.

The Houston Texans are in town, then it's off to San Francisco for a Monday nighter. I'm praying for a split.

No one knows how good the Bears really are because they've beaten … no one. All seven wins came against nobodies. Sorry, it's true. That's why it "feels" like a really good team, but not a great one.

Good, not great. Great comes when they don't have a false start at the beginning of every possession. Great comes when the offensive line, as a unit, knows exactly what it's doing.

Great comes when Mike Tice realizes they're pretty good at running the ball anyway, and throws off of that. Great comes later … not now. Just a hunch.

However, time to pay homage. Charles Tillman. They say his hands have the quickness of a fighter. Hard to believe, but no one else in the NFL is teaching the punchout. And when it happens to the patsies like the Titans, everyone is stunned. Um, he's only been doing this for like … 10 years! What are they reviewing in film study?

Not my problem. Congrats to President Obama on Term 2. Here's a quick agenda for the next four years: 1) Fix the Cubs. 2) Remodel Wrigley Field. 3) Fix the Cubs. If the most powerful man in the world can't fix it, forget it. Not happening.

Now we get to replace Bob Brenly in the booth. Hooray, I say. Time for a man of the people in the booth, not afraid to speak the truth, not afraid to go out for a beer or two.

That's Mark Grace, but he's also not afraid to go out for a drive or two after a beer or two. That's a problem. I have no answers.

But some good electoral news for Joakim Noah. Marijuana has been legalized in Colorado and Washington.

Sir, time for a vacation home out west. We're all invited!
