If your password appears on this list, you WILL get hacked (well, probably)

October 24, 2012|By Zara Husaini @zarhus | RedEye

If you’ve ever used the password “password” for anything online, you made a pretty serious lapse in judgment … but you’re not alone.

Splash Data issued a list of the 25 most popular passwords, and not surprisingly, “password” tops the list--again.

Splash Data's list should be taken as a precaution--hackers abound, and choosing an uncommon password may make all the difference when it comes to Internet safety.

You can probably guess a lot of the other passwords that appear on this list: 12356, 12345678 and 1234567, which all appear. And Abc123 may be really, really easy to type, but it’s also a colossally stupid password, coming in at No. 4 on the list.

Some of the common passwords were slightly more creative: “master.” “Baseball,” “ninja,” and “monkey” are actually kind of funny, as far as passwords go, but they’re also far from unique.  Oh, and for some reason, “Ashley” appeared on the list--either that’s a really common name or people are just kind of obsessed with the slightly less bizarre Olsen twin (even though she has even less of a career right now than Mary Kate does).

Check out for a full list of the 25 most common passwords. And if any of yours appear on this list, do yourself a favor and change it ASAP.
