From the Heart(land)

Bread & Wine 3732 W. Irving Park Road 773-866-5266

The American heartland takes center stage—in both food and drink—during a five-course Midwestern Whiskey Dinner featuring blood sausage with caraway, roasted Arctic char with braised onions and ham hocks and more, all paired with spirits from local distillery Koval. 7-9 p.m. $60. RSVP required by 5 p.m.

By the Book

The Spice House 1512 N. Wells St. 312-274-0378

Meet the James Beard Award-winning cookbook authors of "The Flavor Bible," Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg, and snack on appetizers prepared from their recipes—including pork belly, beef tenderloin, flatbreads and squash soup—at this book-signing party. 6:30-8 p.m. No cover. RSVP requested.

DRINK

View the Debut

Epic 112 W. Hubbard St. 312-222-4940

The River North spot's featured in the debut episode of the Cooking Channel's new show, "Sandra Lee's Taverns, Lounges and Clubs," so they're hosting a viewing party where you can watch the episode while sipping the show's featured drink, $5 Effen Avocado cocktails. 9:30 p.m. No cover.

Undead Trivia

The Atlantic Bar & Grill 5062 N. Lincoln Ave. 773-506-7090

If you're a fan of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and don't care who knows it, you can slay the competition—so to speak—at Buffy Trivia Night, where Project 891 Theatre Company asks questions about things that go bump in the night and the winning individual or team takes home themed prizes. Drink specials include $4 Atlantic ales. 7:30-10 p.m. $5.

DO

Slurpee, Anyone?

The Cornservatory 4210 N. Lincoln Ave. 773-650-1331

Corn Productions celebrates the season with "Nightmares on Lincoln Ave IV: Welcome to the Undead City," an original horror-comedy sketch show in which a dysfunctional tourist family attempts to escape a West Loop 7-11 store during a zombie apocalypse. The show's BYOB, so you can bring your own spiked Slurpee, too. 8 p.m. $7.
