Do you showerpool?

Do you really need an excuse to hop in the shower with someone?

Fine, AXE will give you one: water conservation. If you “showerpool,” you’ll use less water.

AXE, a brand of grooming products including shower gel, is doing a “showerpooling” water conservation campaign with a video narrated by “Twilight’s” Nikki Reed and stops at 10 college campuses, including a visit to Northwestern University planned for Oct. 17.

The campaign centers around a pledge at Facebook.com/axe to install water-efficient showerheads (which AXE will give out to college students for free), reduce shower time to five minutes or less and, of course, invite a friend into the shower. Those who take the online pledge are eligible to win prizes.

Their slogan: “It’s not just environmentally-friendly. It’s all kinds of friendly.”

According to an online AXE survey conducted over the summer by Harris Interactive of 1,900 people ages 18 to 24, Chicagoans shower for 18 minutes – the third longest time out of 10 major cities and behind L.A. and New York.

Although 62 percent of Chicagoans have or want a water-efficient showerhead, they’re wasting water at the sink. Only 36 percent never leave the water running when they brush their teeth.

The good news is Chicagoans like to showerpool, with 44 percent reporting they showered with another person compared to the average of 40 percent. And 41 percent said they would be thrilled if their crush hopped in the shower with them unannounced.

Sounds like good, clean fun.
