Are you a pinball wizard? Do you have the mutant ability to manipulate the little silver orb that always seems to find its way between the flippers whenever I play? If so, you'll want to attend Stern Pinball Inc.'s. launch party for their new "X-Men" pinball machine! The party will be taking place at the Emporium Arcade Bar, this Friday, August 24th, from 6-9 pm CST.

I wanted to learn more about the party and reached out to local pinball professional Zach Sharpe. "There's no admission fee, at least that I'm aware of," Sharpe told me, "But all X-Men machines will be on free play."
Sharpe also informs me that there will be a tournament with a cash prize! "Sign up and pay $5 to enter into the tourney," he says "You get one shot/game at qualifying. At 8:30pm, the top 4 players will play in a playoff, and the players that finished 5th through 8th will play in a playoff. Each playoff is one 4 player game on the X-Men machine."
Once the last ball is launched and the last flipper is flipped, the winning are divided as follows:
1st place - Trophy, 40% of the cash pot
2nd place - 30% of the cash pot
3rd place - 20% of the cash pot
4th place - 10% of the cash pot
The winner of the 5th through 8th place playoff match will win $10.
So, if you make it into the top 8, you stand to win back your entry fee and an extra 5 bucks at the very least.
But how's the game, Zach? Is it as cool as it looks? "I have played a few games on it and so far it's pretty fun," Sharpe says, "They are still tweaking some of the rules and software, but it has a lot of potential and if you get to see/play it yourself, some really cool toys on it - a giant Wolverine and Magneto figures - as well. Tough to rank it to other games since it's still 'new', but first impression it's definitely worth the coin drop if you happen to come across one on location."
The Emporium Arcade Bar is located at 1366 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. Phone # (773) 697-7922
