TMZ reports Chicagoland native and "Real World: Hollywood" star Joey Kovar was found dead by a female friend this morning in the suburbs. He was 29 years old. Friends and fans have started to pay their respects by posting messages on Kovar's Facebook page.
RedEye's Leonor Vivanco interviewed Kovar, who struggled with drug addiction, for a story about Chicago's reality stars on August 28, 2009. Below is the excerpt.
Joey Kovar of MTV's "Real World: Hollywood" and upcoming season of VH1's "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" believes his honesty about using drugs and partying combined with his personality were reasons why he got picked to be on the popular MTV show.
"We kind of have an 'I don't give a [bleep]' attitude. What you see is what you get," Kovar, now 26 and living in Bridgeview, said. "People want edgy. People want attitude. People want in-your-face, and that's what Chicagoans bring," he said. "The attitude we have is what's going to draw the ratings."
