How to drill like D-Rose

August 15, 2012|RedEye

Watching the new Adidas video featuring Derrick Rose (see it here), it's hard to believe he's still months away from playing for the Bulls again. The way he's powering through exercises in the clips, you'd think he'd be good to go by Friday. Alas, it's merely a small glimpse into his rehab from a major knee injury. From what we can tell, these are his inspirations as he gets back on track.

Beach volleyball players

We know he's got the hops for volleyball, and at one point Rose is shown throwing a ball against a wall in rapid succession. It's similar to a drill setters do. Gold medalists Misty May-Treanorand Kerri Walsh Jennings would be proud.

Navy SEALs

The pushups and arm exercises Rose is shown executing look like they're straight out of a military training DVD. Did you see the size of those weights he's lifting with his arms? They could double as the Hulk's brass knuckles.

Gymnasts

One drill has Rose trying to balance on one leg in a narrow space, not unlike gymnasts on the balance beam. Even McKayla Maroney would be impressed. (Don't look at us like that, McKayla.)

Ron Burgundy

When you're working hard as Rose is, that means less time for shaving. He's got a long way to go before he can challenge the beloved fictional anchor, but you can tell the robust 'stache is working for D-Rose.
