Bleeding Heart Bakery announced on its Facebook page that it is set to close Aug. 5.

The owners, husband-and-wife team Vinny and Michelle Garcia, are known for their offbeat style of cake decorating ("punk-rock pastry," as they call it) as well as vegan and organic baked goods. In addition to operating a number of storefront bakeries under the Bleeding Heart name, the Garcias are also known for appearances on Food Network competition shows such as "Extreme Cakes."

Bleeding Heart's locations at 1351 W. Belmont Ave. in Lakeview and at 116 S. York St. in west-suburban Elmhurst set to close. "When we opened the new stores, we had every intention of keeping them open. But, as I am sure has happened to many of you, things changed. And we were offered an opportunity that feels like a very good fit for our passions, talents, and mostly, for our family," read the announcement. "At this time, we do not wish to discuss what we are doing next. We ask that you respect that Bleeding Heart Bakery is closing, and a new chapter is beginning for the Garcias." Calls to the bakery's two remaining locations on Belmont Avenue and in Elmhurst were not answered.

The Garcias closed their Oak Park location of Bleeding Heart earlier this year. They also partnered with Greg Mohr and Scott Weiner of Wicker Park sports bar The Fifty/50 to open Bleeding Heart Bakery & Cafe at 1916 W. Chicago Ave. last August. Earlier this summer, their partnership ended and Mohr and Weiner relaunched the restaurant as West Town Bakery & Diner on July 28.
