Starting Five

The to-do list for sports fans this week

July 17, 2012|Georgia Garvey, RedEye

White Sox at Red Sox

6:10 p.m., Monday, CSN

Kevin Youkilis returns to play at Fenway Park for the first time since his trade to the South Side, bringing with him all the drama of old grudges and hard feelings. Even Cubs fans won't be able to resist tuning in for this one.

"Running For My Life"

Available Tuesday

Can't get enough of those human-interest stories they show during the Olympics? Read this autobiography of Lopez Lomong, a former "Lost Boy" of Sudan who became a distance runner and U.S. citizen, and get a serious reason to root for Team U.S.A. during the London Olympics later this month.

Cubs vs. Marlins

7:05 p.m., Tuesday, Wrigley Field

The team that now has ex-Cub pitcher Carlos Zambrano and ex-White Sox coach Ozzie Guillen will be headed to Wrigleyville to take on the Cubs, who are surpsingly showing some signs of life.

Fire at Red Bulls

Noon, Wednesday, CSN

Chicago and New York are in third and fourth place in the Eastern Conference, respectively, but the two are tied in points. If that's not enough to interest you, legendary forward and Red Bulls captain Thierry Henry has said he won't be satisfied with anything less than a win.

The British Open

Thursday-Sunday, CBS

If Tiger Woods still hasn't returned to pre-car-window-smashing form, and it's too hot or too rainy to get out there and golf yourself, watch the British Open while you catch the most quality Z's of your life. The hushed tones of the announcers are so soothing.
