EAT

Gauge your interest

The Gage, 24 S. Michigan Ave. 312-372-4243

Five years ago, chef Dirk Flanigan created a five-course menu featuring speck-wrapped smelt, lamb chop stew vindaloo and more for owners Billy and Catherine Lawless, which landed him the job as The Gage's executive chef. For the fifth anniversary celebration, he offers those menu items a la carte ($9-$32) plus $5 commemorative beers he co-created with Half Acre and Goose Island breweries. 11 a.m.-11 p.m.

Ham it up

Bar Toma, 110 E. Pearson St. 312-335-5143

Celebrate Ham Independence Week with La Quercia gourmet prosciutto-maker Herb Eckhouse, who offers prosciutto tastings, Dottore pizza, a Silence of the Hams salad and more, served with sparkling and still rose wines and a Templeton Rye cocktail featuring Bar Toma bitters. 6-9 p.m. $30. Phone RSVP required.

DRINK

Sister act

Steppenwolf Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St. 312-335-1650

Be among the first to see Pulitzer Prize-winner Tracy Letts' adaptation of Anton Chekhov classic drama, "Three Sisters," with two-for-one preview tickets and—in the spirit of all things Russian—a complimentary vodka cocktail (or beer, wine or soft drink). 7:30 p.m. $44-$52 for two. RSVP required with code 10930.

DO

Tech-no

The Second City e.t.c., 1608 N. Wells St. 312-337-3992

Resist the compulsion to check your text messages, Facebook page, Twitter feed and all other forms of virtual interaction and instead attend the opening night of "We're All in This Room Together," the 36th revue on the e.t.c. stage, which—not so coincidentally—includes sketches about dependence on technology. 8 p.m. $23-$28.

Millennial pop culture (free!)

Book Cellar, 4736 N. Lincoln Ave. 773-293-2665

Meet Chicago author and Nelson Algren Award-winner Joe Meno ("Hairstyles of the Damned," "The Great Perhaps") as he celebrates the release of his newest novel, "Office Girl," an indie rock romance set in 1999 complete with promiscuous roommates, recurring exes and awkward sex—with readings by Meno and others plus live music by Nick Butcher and Jordan Martins. 7 p.m.

REDEYE TIP OF THE DAY

Call ahead (five days' notice required) for whole smoked Louisiana alligator dinners at Frontier (1072 N. Milwaukee Ave.): 312-453-9397.
