EAT

Bar bites

SmallBar, 2049 W. Division St. 773-772-2727

It's summertime and the livin' is easy with chef Justin White's new seasonal menu, which includes a half or whole pan-seared Wisconsin trout with Yukon gold potato salad and lemon butter ($13-$16) in addition to an Italian sausage sandwich with rocket arugula, whipped ricotta and pickled banana peppers ($12). There also are bar snacks such as boiled peanuts ($4). 11 a.m.-2 a.m.

Strength in numbers

Studio Paris, 59 W. Hubbard St. 312-595-0800

Mingle over small bites and hosted cocktails at the Taste of the Nation Chicago pre-event kick-off, where you also can win door prizes such as tickets to the August Taste of the Nation extravaganza at Navy Pier. All proceeds benefit the Share Our Strength program to combat child hunger. 6-8 p.m. $25 at the door or online at strength.org/chicago.

DRINK

In flight

Bridge Bar, 315 N. LaSalle St. 312-822-0100

Got the mid-week blahs? Refresh yourself at Beerfest, where reps from Half Acre, New Belgium, Three Floyds and Bell's are on hand to present three beers each. Order a flight of three four-ounce drafts from any of the craft breweries for $5 each. 6-8 p.m. No cover.

DO

Treat your feet

North Avenue Beach, 1600 N. Lake Shore Drive

Go Brazilian—on your feet, that is—at the opening of the Havaianas Beach Pop-up Shop, where you can create your own Havaianas brand flip-flops with 15 different strap and bed colors and 35-40 optional pins including hearts, stars, skulls and letters of the alphabet. Noon-7 p.m. Weds.-Sat. $25 plus $2.50 each for pins.

Virtual reality (free!)

Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Millennium Park 201 E. Randolph St.

More than 250 years ago, the landmark work "Giselle" was created for the Paris Opera Ballet. On Wednesday, they perform it for the first time in the U.S. at the Harris Theater. Watch via live simulcast on a giant screen under the stars—it's also the first time a major company's performance has been simulcast for free in the U.S. 7:30 p.m.
