Michaela "Kayla" Duerson isn't making plans if she wins the Curvy Kate "Star in a Bra" model search. She's making sure things are in order for when she's named the victor.
The 23-year-old from Zion said she wasn't even all that surprised to be named in the top 10 for the fuller-cup size lingerie brand Curvy Kate's search for a face and body for the company.
"Some people mistake it for cockiness, but I literally cannot help it," she said.
The contest--which searched the country for bustier women to represent the brand--announced the top 10 finalists last week. The competition seeks to more accurately represent women in America, where the average bra cup size is a 36DD.
With the blessing of her family and a naturally competitive attitude, Duerson said she's ready for her potential big break in modeling.
"It's a dream come true, I am just so happy," she said.
Duerson credits her late uncle--former Chicago Bear Dave Duerson--for much of her competitive spirit. She also said she has her late aunt--who died weeks before Dave Duerson--for her confidence.
"No matter how much weight I gained, no matter how much weight I lost, to her I was always 'Barbie,'" she said. "Honestly, this is in honor of both of them."
Voting for the finalists begins June 13 on Curvy Kate's Facebook page, and the winner will be announced June 29. In the meantime, Duerson will fly to New York on Tuesday for her photo shoot.
If, or as she puts it, when, she wins, Duerson will spend time in the UK--where Curvy Kate is based--modeling for the brand. She said she's already let her boss know her days might be numbered.
"Nobody is surprised I am doing this, everyone said it was made for me," she said.
