INTERVIEW: Blogger SoYeahDuh

May 25, 2012|Ernest Wilkins

You've probably seen SoYeahDuh by now, yeah? Locals have driven themselves into a tizzy about the hilariously accurate GIF depictions of being a young 20-something Chicagoan with a certain amount of disposable income. The Based God Kevin Aeh even has a poll going guessing to the identity of who's behind the account. Because the streets have been asking (and because f**k work, right? It's Friday before Memorial Day weekend), I corresponded with the person behind the account and got some insight into the mind of a GIF master.

How’s the anonymous GIF blog life treating you?

It's ridiculous but tons of fun. I'm literally laughing out loud every single day. I really hope this experience doesn't desensitize me to the magic of GIFs.

So fess up already: Are you a guy or a girl?

GIRL. (Yes, girls can have a funny sense of humor to those who claim "there is now way this blog was created by a women.)

Glad we addressed that. Now, what made you want to start the blog?

I was obsessed with other GIF blogs like #WHATSHOULDYOUCALLME when I started posting my own GIF scenarios on Facebook and Twitter. Then I thought, I should just make my own about the things I do in Chicago, not expecting anyone to really care.

Do you really go to all of those places and bars?

It's literally my life in GIF form. Everything I'm written about is from personal experience. (Yes, I was mugged at the California Blueline stop 8 years ago.)

Wow, that's absoltuletly horrible. Um, onto sunnier topics: have your friends figured you out yet?

It's funny because I've received tons of emails from friends with a link to the blog saying "You're going to love this blog!" Also, there are a few people who have asked if I was behind it and then when I said "no" they said "yah, it's too funny anyways." Some friends, huh?

Damn. Actually, while I have you... you didn’t have to put me on blast like that, did you?

Ernest, you do know me. We've hung out before, too.

So what’s the best spot in the city?

Me, along with everyone else in the city would agree the best spot is anything patio. Big Star, Frontier, Cedar Hotel, Bangers and Lace and Happy Village.

Are you going to make yourself known to the people? If so, what’s your next move?

Absolutely! I've got about 4 of my 15 minutes left. I'm holding out for a cover story - just trying to make my parents proud. If that never happens I'll probably let it be known with a GIF scenario for sure. Stay tuned!

So there you have it. We know basically the same amount we did, go Bears?
