Snagging a cool treat before a stroll along North Avenue Beach is about to get a lot easier thanks to a new outpost of Forever Yogurt.

The self-serve frozen yogurt shop is due to open in mid-June on the west side of the bridge that crosses Lake Shore Drive to connect Lincoln Park to the beach.  It will feature four to five fro-yo machines dishes out eight to 10 different flavors, a toppings bar and and a few umbrella-topped tables for seating.

Though it will look like a permanent structure, the shop will actually be a trailer that will spend the summer months parked here on Chicago Park District property and then head south for the winter. “We’re probably going to bring it to Austin, Texas, for the other part of the year,” said Forever Yogurt franchise CEO Mandy Calara.

Calara said he and business partner Ahmad Yilmaz were drawn to the beach-side location because of the visibility. “It’s the right type of people that are in the area: It’s people that are more health-conscious, runners and bike riders,” Calara said. “It’s in the best months of the year that people are interested in frozen yogurt.”

Forever Yogurt opened its first location on North Avenue in Bucktown in 2010. In addition to shops on Belmont in Lakeview and Chicago Avenue in River North, it most recently added its first franchised location at 3510 N. Halsted St. in Boystown. The next shop at 5309 N. Clark St. in Andersonville is four to six weeks away from opening its doors.
