All Chicago campuses have class, but a national contest currently says three of them have style to back it up.
Northwestern, The University of Chicago and Columbia College Chicago are currently sitting in the top 50 of what fashion startup stylitics.com – in partnership with hercampus.com, an online magazine for college women – is calling "The Most Stylish Campus" competition. Northwestern is currently 20th, with Columbia and University of Chicago at 35th and 39th respectively. The contest will also crown the top 50 most stylish college students in the country.
Jessica Novak, marketing manager for Stylitics, said the rankings are based on colleges with the most students using the "virtual style assistant," which keeps inventories of the clothes in their closet and can recommend wardrobes based on the weather and according to current trends. The more students who share their profiles and gain followers to their style profiles, the higher the points for a given school.
"Chicago is definitely one of our hubs that has several schools in the leader board," she said. The top 50 individuals when the contest ends May 10 will be awarded with prizes and featured in a "look book" of their personal styles on the website hercampus.com. Additionally, the top five campuses on May 10 will be judged by a panel of style experts, and the winner will be declared May 15. The most stylish campus will also be featured in a "look book."
"People are putting a lot into it," she said. "They are very unique, very individualized (styles)."
Novak said the rankings will likely change before the close of the contest, and while they've remained pretty steady so far, some schools have jumped closer to the top of the list since the contest started earlier this month. All four-year schools in the U.S. can take place in the contest.
