Spanish and spirits at Club Lucky

April 04, 2012|By Taylor Ervin, RedEye

Elaine Winer's Spanish class is not your typical high school snooze fest.

Next month, the former high school teacher will be launching an eight week series of conversational Spanish classes that will let students knock back a few cold ones while they learn.

The classes will be held in the backroom of Club Lucky in Bucktown and will focus heavily on storytelling and physical gestures. Winer has learned through years of teaching, that students simply learn better when they are relaxed.

"Learning is a social activity, and if you are more relaxed your brain is more open to learning," Winer said.

An eight week class for beginners will meet every Tuesday starting May 8, and a more advanced class will meet on Wednesdays beginning May 9. For more information visit Winer's website at Classes cost around $240.
