Game of votes: Sharp, Keith vying for video game cover

March 29, 2012|RedEye

Sorry, Blackhawks fans, but you must choose only Patrick Sharp or Duncan Keith. You can't have both.

The stars are in a bid to represent the Hawks in fan voting to determine who will grace the cover of EA Sports' "NHL 13." The voting, under way at, will consist of two preliminary rounds, followed by a 16-player bracket to produce a winner. The cover-contest champion will be revealed June 20. The first round pits two members of each team against each other and continues until April 11, when the field is reduced to 32 players.

Because only one Hawk can be represented in the next round, we're here to help fans who might be undecided by pitting Sharp and Keith against each other in several key categories.

Keith. This is a close one, but Sharp's missed a handful more games to injury the past few seasons.

Sharp. Sorry, Duncan. It's not your fault you took a puck to the face, but Sharp's got legions of fans who think he's dreamy.

Keith. They've both got a Stanley Cup ring, but Keith has a Norris Trophy and an Olympic gold medal. Dude gets it done.

Sharp. He's a bit more squeaky clean because, unlike Keith, he didn't recently earn a five-game suspension.

Keith. Nothing says "hockey player" like long hair that flows from the back of your helmet. Just ask Patrick Kane, a former EA Sports cover man himself.

Keith. You can't go wrong with either guy on the cover, but if you HAVE to choose one, Keith gets a slight edge. It'll be your turn next year, Sharpie.
