Running with the stars

If you're gonna break a sweat, why not do it with a celeb?

March 28, 2012|RedEye

Barely a few days pass without Derrick Rose releasing a new shoe or commercial. On Wednesday, an ad featuring the Bulls superstar dropped to mark the launch of Adidas' ClimaCool Seduction running shoe. And this time he shares the spotlight with Katy Perry, David Beckham and Lionel Messi; the icons are all shown chasing that proverbial runner's high.

Of course, with all the great weather Chicago's been having, we'd love to go stride for stride with any of them. So assuming we'd get approval from their security detail, who would make the best running buddy?

ROSE

Pro: He's so humble, we can't think he'll embarrass us when we collapse from exhaustion before he's barely warmed up.

Con: If the banged-up Rose's groin injury gets worse while he's working out with us, we'd never forgive ourselves.

PERRY

Pro: Running with the pop princess is bound to keep us on our toes. One minute she'd be stopping to sign autographs, the next we'd be sprinting from the paparazzi.

Con: Russell Brand might call and kill the mood for everyone. Exercise is for AVOIDING stress.

BECKHAM

Pro: Getting the story on all those tattoos is bound to be entertaining. And if he wanted to share some Spice Girls drama, that's cool, too.

Con: He's got four children to take care of, so who knows when his fatherly duties would summon him elsewhere.

MESSI

Pro: What better way to brush up on our Spanish than with the best soccer player on the planet? Vamos a correr!

Con: The commercial has him running in some sort of dark hallway in Buenos Aires. That would get old fast.

WINNER

Perry. Seeing as the others are professional athletes, there's a concern they'd take their workouts too seriously. With Perry, we'd probably be too caught up in her lighthearted energy to notice how tired we were getting. Plus: No iPod, no problem—just have her start singing!
