Arthur Darvill (from left), Matt Smith and Karen Gillan on the set of "Doctor… (BBC America )
Looks like The Doctor fell in love with the wild, wild West during last season's trip to the U.S. The just-released Season 7 trailer for "Doctor Who" has a decidedly "Westworld" feel to it, with an angry cyborg gunslinger and the Doctor lined up for a shootout.
I hope the Doctor has better luck with his six-shooter than Amy does. "Everyone who isn’t an American, drop you gun," says the sheriff of the town of Mercy after Amy mistakenly fires—twice. (The sheriff happens to be played by “Farscape” and "Stargate" star Ben Browder!)
The Doctor, Amy and Rory also appear to meet an Egyptian Queen that could be Cleopatra, and the travel from a dusty western wasteland to a cold, snow-covered one. (Is that a Dalek’s eye popping up out of the snow?)
The trailer includes some wonderful special effects and terrific lines from Matt Smith’s Doctor like the following: “Anachronistic electricity, ‘keep out’ signs, aggressive stares—has someone been peeking at my Christmas list,” he says as he, Amy and Rory walk into Mercy.
The trailer did its job well: I’m impatiently waiting for the return of “Doctor Who.” What did you think of the trailer?
Here’s what BBC has to say about the trailer, and the season, which will begin sometime this fall on BBC America.
“The new season will see the last days of the Ponds, with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill making their final rollercoaster voyage with The Doctor (Matt Smith). Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) have been at the Doctor's side for more than two seasons but what will he do after their heartbreaking departure?
“New guest stars so far confirmed to star will include David Bradley, Rupert Graves and Mark Williams. Season 7 will then see a dramatic turn of events when The Doctor meets a new friend—the recently-announced new companion, played by Jenna-Louse Coleman.”
