Austin on Friday saw its second homicide of the month and sixth homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
A 24-year-old man was shot to death in the 400 block of North Lockwood Avenue, police said. Austin, the city's largest community area, saw 30 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Chicago Lawn, Greater Grand Crossing, Humboldt Park, the Lower West Side and South Chicago, police data shows.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man was stabbed to death Sunday in the 200 block of South Western Avenue on the Near West Side, police said.
Fifteen homicides have been recorded so far this month. Police logged 22 homicides in March last year, RedEye found.
